The Cagayan state university (CSU) is the first and the only state run comprehensive institute of higher learning in Cagayan. It has shared its history contribution to the development of tertiary education in the Philippines. Presidential decree 1436, signed on July 11, 1978 created the Cagayan state university by merging two existing state colleges, the Cagayan valley college of Arts & Trades (CvCAT) at Tuguegarao the Northern Luzon state college of Agriculture (NLSCA) at piat. Today, CSU is present in six sites outside Tuguegarao which is located at Sanchez Mira, Lasam, Aparri, Lallo, Gonzaga, and Piat so that the original intent of providing democratized tertiary education in the countryside is felt in the whole region specifically in Cagayan.

The Uniersity of Northern Philippines holds the distinction of being the first state university in northern Luzon. It was created through the enactment of Republic Act 4449 authored by the late Congressman Floro S. Crisologo. Approved on 19 July 1965, the Act converted the I locos Sur School of Arts and Trades, in the municipality of vigan, province of I locos Sur, into this university. The governance of this university is vested in a Board of Regents. The first board was constituted on October 14, 1965. 1965 – Republic Act 4449 authored by the late congressman Floro Crisologo made the llocos Sur school of arts and Trades, the university of northern Philippines. October 14, 1965 – The first State University of the North started implementing its charter.

A HUMBLE BEGINNING. In 1967, Jose C. Olivares, a Chemistry professor-entrepreneur and his son-in-law Dr. Vicente M. Santos, a physician, founded Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in Valenzuela, a former municipality of Bulacan. The hospital immediately became the primary provider of medical and health care services for the residents of Valenzuela. Mr. Olivares, who was then a professor at the Ateneo de Manila University, envisioned a dream for Fatima. He set his eyes in transforming the Our Lady of Fatima Hospital from a general hospital to a medical complex that will be the training ground for health care providers such as nurses and midwives. Thus, in 1973, the Our Lady of Fatima College of Nursing was established. And in 1976, the first batch of Nursing graduates garnered an unprecedented 100% passing average in the Nursing Board examinations. As a result of the growth in enrollment in the mid-70s, the College expanded its facilities and instituted more curricular programs. In 1979, Dr. Vicente M. Santos, together with his wife Mrs. Juliet Olivares Santos, pursued the vision of Mr. Olivares even further by establishing the Fatima Medical Science Foundation.

Dr. Antonio Laperal Tamayo, founder and his wife Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo, co-founder together with their friend, Ernesto PalancaCrisostomo, established on February 5, 1975 in Las Piňas City the Perpetual Help College of Rizal, now the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Las Piňas. The first school building consisting of four floors (the present hospital) was constructed in a remarkable record-breaking period of only four months, which ordinarily takes one year to construct. The school building was created to house the College of Nursing and medicine. Around 700student were enrolled and a few were referrals from the Perpetual Help School in Manila. Perpetual was indeed on its way to becoming a premier university south of Metro Manila. Dr. Tamayo earned his post-graduate courses in Hospital Administration at George Washington University in Washington D.C., supplemented with special studies on Hospital Management from Ateneo de Manila University, and a Ph. D in Organizational Development from the Southeast Asian Interdisciplinary Institute.

Lyceum-Northwestern University was founded by Dr. Francisco Quimson Duque and Mrs. Florencia Tiongson Duque in 1969. Lyceum Northwestern led a consortium of local tertiary schools and founded the Northern Philippines Institute of Medicine. LN became the "first medical school of the north" which began with an enrollment of 19 students in 1969. The FQD Medical Foundation College of Medicine was recognized as the third best medical school in the Philippines and was ranked no.5 worldwide based from the 1982 Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates Exam Results (ECFMG) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (published in the International Herald Tribune, May 20, 1983).

Emilio Aguinaldo College begins with a man who envisions the Filipino youth to be totally educated and trained through arts, sciences and technology. That man, Dr. Paulo C. Campos, one of the very few Filipino National Scientists noted for his work on nuclear medicine, has been recognized and awarded for his numerous researches and publications. He is also credited for establishing the first and best known Radioisotope Laboratory in the Philippines, the first Research Laboratory in the Department of Medicine, University of the Philippines and the Thyroid Clinic of the UP-PGH Medical Center. Located at the heart of Manila, Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) is a private, non-sectarian, coeducational academic institution that offers rigorous professional degree programs open to local and foreign students.EAC nurtures a diverse student body and cultivates partnerships with various training institutions for authentic, advanced learning experiences rarely matched by other learning institutions. From its foundation in 1957 as a midwifery school, EAC has since evolved to offer a wide array of degree programs – from doctorate, masters, undergraduate, to certificate and diploma courses.Incorporating interdisciplinary, hands-on approach in developing skills in students, our close-knit community makes it what one college guide calls an "urban oasis."

LCUP, inspired by an abiding faith in God and guided by the Augustinian spirituality and belief in the capacity of the Filipino people is a community of friends committed to the new call. It aims to develop Filipino Christian Nationalist graduates who are.Morally and Spiritually imbued with the blessing of the reign kingdom of God: Justice, Freedom, Peace and Love.Gospel-value-oriented and in constant journey towards transformation of self, others and society,Equipped with professional competence and sense of values in the preservation of the countrys patrimony and ecology,Socially-conscious and responsive to the needs of the Philippine society thus developing pro-people attitudes and becoming active participants in the establishment of a just and humane society especially in Bulacan through evangelization.

"We envision Saint Louis University as an excellent missionary and transformative educational institution zealous in developing human resources imbued with the Christian Spirit and who are creative, competent and socially involved."
